Westlake-based Nordson Corp. is boosting its electronics systems business by acquiring Sonoscan Inc., a designer and manufacturer of acoustic microscopes and acoustic micro imaging systems. Terms were not disclosed. Elk Grove, Ill.-based Sonoscan, which employs about 85 people, will operate within Nordson’s Advanced Technology Systems segment in what is seen as an opportunity for Nordson to grow its electronics systems business in the advanced semi-conductor packaging and automotive electronics markets. Sonoscan’s technology nondestructively finds and characterizes physical defects. It’s used in microelectronic, automotive, aerospace and industrial electronics assembly applications. “Sonoscan’s acoustic imaging solutions are adjacent and highly complementary to Nordson’s existing bond testing, X-ray and automated optical inspection solutions, and are sold to the same set of customers,” Joseph Stockunas, vice president of Nordson’s Advanced Technology Systems segment, said in a statement.
