Dean Grabelle
Senior Vice President & General Counsel
Hanwha Philly Shipyard, Inc.
Dean Grabelle led the $100 million acquisition of Philly Shipyard by South Korea’s Hanwha Group, a complex transaction requiring CFIUS approval of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and coordination across multiple time zones. Amid negotiations, Dean also managed critical litigation that, if lost, could have halted operations and jeopardized hundreds of jobs. His steady leadership ensured a favorable court ruling, preserved the shipyard’s future, and allowed the deal to close on time. Today, Hanwha Philly Shipyard is poised for growth, job creation, and expanded capabilities, thanks in large part to Dean’s unflappable guidance and strategic insight.
