Cranberry Township-based EPIC Extremity, a designer of screw and plating systems for the foot and ankle, has been acquired by Exactech. The transaction continues the relationship between the two companies and expands Exactech’s commitment to the foot and ankle market.

The Florida company, which has been distributing the EPIC Extremity foot and ankle reconstruction system for the past year, now has full ownership of the product line.

EPIC Extremity, an early-stage orthopedic medical device company, was founded in 2012 by Dan Schwartzbauer, a consultant and entrepreneur with experience in early-stage orthopedic startups.

“At the core of EPIC Extremity was a desire to provide surgeons with implant systems that offer quality patient care and service in an efficient and cost-effective manner,” Schwartzbauer said in a statement. "With Exactech’s acquisition, we feel confident that we can accomplish this mission even further, and we look forward to seeing its growth and even more patients being served."
