Pittsburgh-based PittMoss, which was featured on Shark Tank in 2015, has raised $1.23 million of Series B funding from Innovation Works, Keiretsu Capital and Keiretsu Forum. Lehigh Valley Angel Investors also participated in the round.
The company, which was founded in 1994 as a humble kitchen experiment, manufactures environmentally-friendly gardening mixes and animal bedding from organic, recycled paper.
Founder and inventor Mont Handley’s passion convinced three of the “sharks” on the ABC show to invest in his company.
The company is led by CEO and President Brian Scott, who has been a public company CIO, 10-year angel investor, been a part of seven startups/turnarounds, IPO and exit, as well as a board member for two startups.
